Metal Garden Sheds

Buying Metal Sheds

Metal Shed Shop Home Page

Finding the right shed isn’t easy....Your in the right place. Buy Metal Sheds or read on

You need something that is sturdy and long lasting, but you also want something that will fit in with the design of your garden.  You want something strong and secure, but you also want something that you don’t have to spent hours maintaining.  And, you don’t want to pay the earth.

That is why many people are turning to metal sheds as an alternative to a traditional wooden shed.

Metal sheds are a terrific way to keep all your outdoor belongings safe and secure.  Whether you are looking to store your bicycles and equipment or whether you are a keen gardener looking to keep your lawnmower and garden essentials secure, a metal shed provides the solution.

There are a wide range of different types, styles and sizes of metal garden sheds available.  These range from smaller metal storage boxes right up to large metal garages.  It is also possible to buy special metal bike storage boxes.

Your metal shed will typically have a plastic coating or colourbond material to ensure it is completely weatherproof.  A ten year rust penetration guarantee is also very common with any type of metal garden storage.  As well as repelling the elements, a metal shed is also extremely strong and they are engineered to withstand very high winds.

Most metal sheds make it easy for you to store your belongings.  Many feature extra-wide hinged or sliding doors which provides additional space for fitting in all your larger possessions.  These doors also assist the security of your shed and most metal garden buildings are fully lockable.

Despite what you may think, metal sheds can be an attractive alternative to a traditional wooden shed or garden workshop.  Most metal sheds are either coloured or come in a zinc titanium finish to blend in with the surroundings of your garden.

The first thing you should do before buying a metal shed is to carefully consider where you want to put your shed.  For example, if you want to run an electrical power supply to your metal shed, you will need to situate it somewhere where the cables will extend.  You need to take into account whether there are growing, overhanging trees nearby and whether you have easy access to all sides of the shed for maintenance purposes.  Bear in mind also that the delivery team will need to be able to carry the unassembled shed to your chosen location.

Once you have done this, you should carefully measure the space you have available in your garden.  You also need to remember that the roof may overhang slightly, so make sure this is taken into account.  You will need accurate measurements in order that you can find a metal shed that fits the space you have available.

Once you have chosen the size of your metal shed, you need to consider the design.  These garden buildings come in various shapes and sizes and so you need to find one that perfectly suits your garden.  For example, sheds typically come with three styles of roof: flat, apex or a pent roof.  Pent roof sheds are ideal if you are planning to locate the shed against a fence or wall whereas a traditional apex roof may be more appropriate if the shed is to be freestanding.

Having chosen and bought your metal shed, the next step will be to prepare a base for the shed.  If you don’t create a level, hard surface for your metal shed, constructing it will be tricky.  You may find that you can’t square the building correctly when putting on the roof and that the doors do not close properly.

There are various different types of base that are recommended.  The most common bases are made from either concrete or paving slabs, and there are relatively easy to construct.  Planning permission is normally not required for a prefabricated garden building.  However, if you live in a conservation area, it may be worth double checking with your local council prior to the construction of your shed.

The construction of a metal garden shed is usually quite straightforward.  Having a few people to assist you in the construction is a good idea, and you should pick a dry, still day.  Good construction will not only mean your shed looks great but you will also lengthen its life.

Then, you can begin to enjoy your shed!  You can reclaim your spare room by storing all your hobby equipment or belongings in the shed, or you can empty your cluttered garage in order to house your car.  Whatever garden storage solution you need, a metal shed could be the perfect answer.
